| Crop Over Festival | |
|
For five weeks every summer Barbados celebrates Crop Over, an exciting and vibrant extravaganza of music and masquerade, history and culture to mark the end of the sugar cane cutting season. Festival origins can be traced back to the 1780's, when Barbados was the one of the world's foremost producers of sugar, and a festival was held at the culmination of each sugar season. |

Today Crop Over offers an extensive calendar of events throughout July and into August with the grand road-march finale on Kadooment Day (always the first Monday in August). The festival incorporates many aspects of cultural life but none so much as Calypso music, which is now inextricably linked to it.
The festival is enthusiastically celebrated by Barbadians and has become an event that attracts thousands of people from across the globe. |
